NiCoAl-Based Monolithic Catalysts for the N2O Intensified Decomposition: A New Path towards the Microwave-Assisted Catalysis

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is considered the primary source of NOx in atmosphere, and among several abatement processes, catalytic decomposition most promising. The thermal energy necessary for this reaction generally provided from external side reactor by burning fossil fuels. In present work, order to overcome limits related greenhouse gas emissions, high heat transfer resistance, losses, a microwave-assisted N2O was studied, taking advantages microwave’s (MW) properties assuring direct selective heating. To end, two microwave-susceptible silicon carbide (SiC) monoliths were layered with different nickel–cobalt–aluminum mixed oxides. Based on results characterization analyses (SEM/EDX, BET, ultrasound washcoat adherence tests, Hg penetration technique, TPR), sample showing suitable characteristics process reproduced appropriate size perform specific MW-assisted activity tests. demonstrated that, coupling system an opportunely designed microwave heated reactor, it possible reach total conversion selectivity highly concentrated stream (50 vol%) at T = 550 °C, same required conventionally remove less (20 vol%).
